ABOUT

Becket's Chapel is owned and operated by Historic Norfolk.

It is a Grade 1 listed building, the earliest parts of which date from the 12th century and is one of Wymondham's most important heritage assets.

Becket's Chapel reopened in July 2023 following a programme of restoration and repair by Historic Norfolk This first phase of the restoration involved repairs to the fabric of the building to make it watertight, structurally sound and in a usable condition.

We are now actively planning the second phase of this project, subject to planning and funding. This will include an upgrade to the kitchen and toilet facilities, making the chapel accessible to all, and a new extension on the south side housing a café and welcome desk, and providing solar power through roof incorporated solar panels. The installation of a ground or air-source heat pump and discrete, secondary double glazing is also planned. These initiatives will make the chapel environmentally and economically sustainable.

Becket's Chapel was opened on Sunday 25 June 2023 by the Mayor of Wymondham.
